Use of cookies

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text strings that the sites visited by the user send to his terminal (usually the browser), where they are stored before being re-transmitted to the same sites at the next visit of the same user. During the navigation of a site, you can receive on your terminal also cookies that are sent to different sites or web server (so-called "third party"), on which they may reside some elements (such as, for example, images, maps, links to specific pages in other domains) on the same site that are visiting.
Cookies, usually found in the users browser in very large number and sometimes with characteristics of large persistence time, are used for different purposes: execution of authentication information, monitoring sessions, storing information about specific configurations about users who access server, etc.

2. What are the main types of Cookies?

In this regard, and for the purposes of this provision, it therefore identifies two main categories: "technical" cookies and "profiling" cookies.

a. Technical cookies.

Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of "carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide this service "(cfr. art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Code).
They are not used for other purposes and are usually installed by the owner or operator of the website. Can be divided into cookies or browsing session, which guarantee the normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate for access to restricted areas); analytics cookies, considered similar to technicians cookies where used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate, about the number of users and how they visit the site; functionality cookies, which allow the user browsing based on a set of selected criteria (for example, the language, the products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service offered to the user. For the installation of these cookies it is not required the prior consent of the user.

b. Profiling Cookies.

Profiling Cookies are aimed at creating user profiles and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences shown by the same user while surfing the net. Given the considerable invasiveness that such devices may have on the private sphere of the users, the European and Italian legislation requires the user to be properly informed on the use of the same and express their valid consent. At this refers the art. 122 of the Privacy Code where it provides that "the storage of information on the terminal of a contractor or a user or access to information already stored, are only allowed on condition that the contractor or the user has given consent after It has been informed by the simplified procedures referred to in Article 13 Data Protection Code, paragraph 3 ".

Session and Persistent Cookies

The Session Cookies contain information that is used in your current browser session. These cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Nothing is stored on your computer over the period of use of the site.

The Persistent Cookies are used to maintain information that is used in the period between one access and the other to the website, or used for technical purposes and to improve navigation on the site. This data allows sites to recognize that you are a user or previous visitor and adapts accordingly. The "persistent" cookies have a life that is secured by the website and that may vary from a few minutes to several years.

First Party and Third Party Cookies

It must take into account the different subject that installs cookies on the user's terminal, depending on whether it is the same manager of the site that the user is visiting (which can be briefly referred to as "publisher") or is another site than installs cookies through the first (called "third parties").

First Party Cookies, created and read by the site that created them.
